Yurt Derivation – August 2015

9.Wooden Yurt DerivativeOur Yurt-like structure is proving very popular with it’s guests this month and is something we will be concentrating our efforts on development. I was certainly sad to finish it and hence leave what had been my weekday home whilst building. It proved such a relaxing inspirational space.

Under construction, and my home for the build.

This Cedar framed building at 18′ diameter is highly insulated and has a 4′ polycarbonate dome.  My favourite features are the four recycled glass bottle windows which sparkle with the most wonderful greens in sunlight.

This heated build is constructed around a 3″x 2″ frame, clad with Larch on the outside, insulated and lined with painted ply. The ceiling is from Cedar, as are the fascias and vertical trims to the outside. The sink surround and Compost Loo (incorporating sawdust bin) are built from  ‘EcoSheet’ – a washable recycled plastic sheet. The floor is a non-slip durable lino laid on EcoSheet. To the left of the sink unit is a walk in Shower.

Garden Office – February 2015.

This 8′ x 12′ build is first constructed at the workshop in manageable sections and transported to site for assembly.
All timber is locally sourced Cedar with 9mm OSB Sterling board for side panels and 18mm for the floor and roof.

The UPVC windows and door are reclaimed hence saving a considerable amount on the overall build cost. These are fitted into cedar frames before assembly on site.
